At least 18 people were killed as well as 40 houses and a church were burned down in an overnight attack in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo on Wednesday. The attack happened in the remote village of Baeti.
"The army was alerted but did not intervene," said Kinos Kathuho, the head of the local civil society.
When asked for comment on the incident, a spokesman for the armed forces said it "cannot react to this nonsense."
The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) was blamed for the attack as they have killed nearly 600 civilians since November 2019.
