A massive explosion has rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The cause of the blast is yet unknown.

The first part of the explosion occurred shortly after 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday in the city's port area. A second part near the first soon followed and produced a massive shock wave that raced through the city and shattered windows as far as 6 miles away. The explosion caused widespread destruction to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Local media is currently speculating that the explosion was caused by a large fireworks depot, which is known to be near the site.

No deaths have yet been reported. Lebanon's Ministry of Health instructed hospitals to prepare to receive patients due to the high number of injuries.
