In West Virginia, 28 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been linked to a single church, officials announced Monday.
Graystone Baptist Church in Greenbrier County is at the center of the outbreak, which initially was reported to involve only 17 infected people.
The state's Department of Health and Human Resources also has said four other churches saw outbreaks over the weekend of June 13-14, local news outlet WCHS reported.
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said on Monday it is likely that not all the people attending Graystone Baptist Church maintained CDC-recommended social distancing or wore masks. He praised West Virginians for their actions during the pandemic, but urged them to remain vigilant.
The church building will be closed for 14 days, and the National Guard has been called in to clean it.
