Four-year-old Evelyn "Vadie" Sides was found safe after roughly 48 hours in the woods in Alabama, according to local authorities. Her pet dog, Lucy, was by her side.
"We took a walk but then I got too fast and got running and got lost and then I started calling for nanny but nanny was too far," Sides said in a video posted to Facebook by her family. She said she slept by a road one of the two nights she was lost.
Sides got lost after she wandered away from a 70-year-old family friend, who lost sight of her during a walk.
"We needed this badly," Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told local news. "This was really good, solid, positive news in a time when I think people need it the most, with all the medical concerns going on."
Sides was found with her hound dog, who barked when the search team approached before running off. The dog later returned home.
