Chicago saw 37 shooting victims resulting in 9 deaths over the holiday weekend, officials reported.
The first death occurred early Friday, with a 30-year-old man struck in the head by a bullet. He died at the Chicago Medical Center.
A 14-year-old boy was among those injured during a Sunday shooting. He was hit in the wrist and joined at Stroger Hospital by a 21-year-old struck in the leg during the same shooting. Both are in fair condition.
Shootings and killings are up more than 50% compared to this time last year, according to police statistics.
