A boy in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was joined at his adoption hearing on Thursday by his entire kindergarten class.
Michael, 5, was supported at the hearing making his adoption official by his fellow classmates, who sat in the audience behind him with red hearts mounted on wooden sticks.
The judge also invited the audience to share what Michael means to them. Many of the kindergartners stood up and told the court that "I love Michael" or "Michael's my best friend."
Michael's adoptive father said hearing their responses was his favorite part of the hearing.
The class' attendance was initiated by Michael's teacher, who brought up the idea to Michael's mother one day as she dropped him off.
Michael's father and mother have been married for 10 years and have fostered Michael since last Thanksgiving.
