A.C. Moore, the craft retailer that has operated in the United States for more than 30 years, announced on Monday that it will be closing all of its remaining stores in the near future.

The chain's parent company, Nicole Craft, announced that it was exiting the retail industry and that a detailed plan of its store closures will be released in the coming weeks.

Several dozen of the stores are slated to be taken over by Michaels, a rival craft company.

The company's CEO said in a press release that changes to the economy had "made it very difficult…to operate and compete on a national level."
