Acting Navy secretary resigns following criticism of captain who sounded coronavirus alarm

Thomas Modly, the acting Secretary of the Navy, has tendered his resignation shortly after slamming a Navy captain for his letter warning of a coronavirus outbreak on an aircraft carrier.

Modly had previously criticized Capt. Brett Crozier for raising the alarm with superiors about a coronavirus outbreak on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Crozier was fired last week for reportedly leaking that warning to the press.

The acting secretary on Monday told soldiers at Guam that Crozier was either "stupid" or "naive" for believing that the letter would not be leaked. He apologized for those comments on Tuesday before later submitting his resignation.
