Fans of Fox's hit comedy series "Last Man Standing" received good news from the program's star, comedian Tim Allen, who announced the top-rated comedy would be back for a ninth season.
Nine seasons will eclipse the mark of Allen's original television series, the award-winning, ABC hit "Home Improvement," which lasted eight seasons.
"Although [the 'Last Man Standing' cast] doesn't replace the wonderful, the beautiful 'Home Improvement' family that I still am close to, this family is now, we're empty nesters," Allen said. "Everybody at the show ... has grown up ..."
Fox executives announced Tuesday the return of both "Last Man Standing" and the popular hospital drama "The Resident."
New episodes of "Last Man Standing" are planned to begin airing this fall.
