An ad in Times Square has sparked controversy for its depiction of a woman hogtying President Donald Trump in front of the White House.
An ad shows a model with her foot on Trump’s head as she tightens a red, white, and blue rope around the screaming president.
Oregon-based clothing company Dhvani, which put up the ad, has never taken a public political position but is now “fed up,” said CEO Avi Brown. The ad is part of the company’s #StandForSomething campaign.
Brown explained that the red, white, and blue rope reflects Wonder Woman’s “truth lasso” and the background image of lightning over the White House is supposed to illustrate “the inevitable and supernatural power of justice.”
“This is just saying: Let’s put a gag order on him. Enough is enough. We support impeachment,” Brown said. “Our intent is for our brand to stand for progressive change in the face of what we perceive to be steps backwards in the evolution of our country.”
Brown reportedly plans to donate some of the proceeds from the ad to Planned Parenthood.
