House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed during the impeachment hearing Wednesday that he does not know the identity of the Ukraine whistleblower whose complaint was the catalyst for the launch of the impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) spoke during the hearing, asking Schiff when they might get the opportunity to question the whistleblower. Jordan said to Schiff that he is the only member of Congress “who knows who that individual is” and whose staff has “had a chance to talk with that individual.”
“First, as the gentleman knows, that’s a false statement. I do not know the identity of the whistleblower and I’m determined to make sure that identity is protected.”
Schiff’s claim drew audible laughs from Republicans present at the hearing.
? Schiff was caught making misleading statements five weeks ago about his committee meeting with the whistleblower, which earned him “four Pinocchios” from the Washington Post fact-checker.
