Afghan military forces have released the names of 70 Taliban commanders killed in operations against the extremist group, in response to Taliban attacks throughout the nation.
In the past 25 days, the militant group's attacks have killed 134 civilians and wounded 289 more.
The nation's Ministry of Interior Affairs also reports that 152 Pakistani fighters have been killed in action against the Taliban.
The leaders were killed in the Kandahar and Helmand provinces. Afghan fighters also have defended the two provinces, and others in the southern part of the country, from Taliban attacks. A ministry spokesperson, Tariq Arian, even said the Taliban have been defeated in the nation's south. The Taliban denies the Afghan government's reports about how many in the group have been recently killed.
