Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will be facing a primary challenge in her upcoming 2022 senate race. Kelly Tshibaka, who used to serve as a commissioner for the Alaska Department of Administration, became the first Republican to declare their intent to run against the politically moderate Murkowski.

President Donald Trump promised earlier this year that he would be making his way to Alaska to campaign against the multi-term senator who was one of just seven Republicans to vote to convict the former president during his second impeachment trial.

Tshibaka said in a press release that she was entering the race because Murkowski was enabling President Biden's destructive agenda to "end drilling and kill Alaska jobs."

While all indications are that Murkowski will seek reelection in 2022, she has made no formal announcement of her intentions.
