Employees of Amazon may be watching footage of users’ home and studying the goings-on of their household in an attempt to develop algorithms for its artificial intelligence.

Amazon says that its Cloud Cam, a product designed to help users monitor their own homes, is “everything you need to monitor your home, day or night.” That monitoring is assisted in part by employees out of Romania and India, who reportedly monitor video clips submitted by users.

These employees are meant to help the corporation’s artificial intelligence systems recognize the difference between threats and non-threats, such as burglars and household pets, respectively. The corporation insists that all clips are provided voluntarily, though two anonymous employees said that involuntary footage has sometimes been submitted to the human workers.
