Actor Andy Samberg said "[p]eople who have problems with [the Academy Awards' new diversity requirements] can f*** off."
"The parameters, if you look at them closely ... can have the whitest cast in the history of cinema and still very easily meet them by just doing a few key roles behind the camera. People who problems with it can f*** off," Samberg said on Variety's Awards Circuit podcast.
🔦 In September, the Academy released new requirements for movies to be able to qualify for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The new guidelines mandate a film's cast, narrative, production crew, or executive team to have "representation and inclusion" (in two of the four aforementioned categories) from "underrepresented groups" such as:
- Women
- Certain "[r]acial or ethnic group[s]"
- "LGTBTQ+" people
- "People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing."
