Apple Maps and the Apple Weather app will now display Crimea as Russian territory, after Russia complained that an isolated Crimea is not accurate. The Apple Maps app will only show Crimea as Russian territory when the app is viewed in Russia. Elsewhere Crimea will be seen as detached from the country.

Russia appropriated the region of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, which raised international tension and disagreement. Despite the annex, Apple Maps has still displayed Crimea as part of Ukraine.

In March, Google took the same action with their map app by only making Crimea displayed as Russian territory when viewed in Russia.
