Annella Krom, an art teacher and devout Christian, was fired after she refused to give credit to a student who chose their gender transition as the topic of their art assignment.

Krom teaches art at Arizona College Preparatory-Erie.

A report from the district office says that Krom “subsequently acknowledged that she rejected the topic because it conflicted with the teacher’s religious beliefs.”

“I understand that you are probably unwilling to change your topic at this point, but I cannot be forced to compromise convictions,” Krom reportedly told the student.

Students have alleged that Krom brought a box of Bibles to her classroom and would often speak about her faith.

Her termination from the school was reportedly for failure to conform to the school’s policy on discrimination, which is included in her contract as a teacher. The contract prohibits a teacher from discriminating against any coworker, student, or parent based on gender or sexual orientation.
