At least 13 dead after SUV carrying 27 people hits semitruck in California

At least 13 individuals were killed and 12 were injured after a sports utility vehicle crashed into a semitruck near the Mexican border of California during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"We believe there was 27 passengers in this SUV that struck a semi-truck full of gravel," said Judy Cruz of El Centro Regional Medical Center, where the deceased and injured were taken.

First responders declared 12 people dead at the scene and another died after being taken to the hospital. Ten of the injured were taken to the hospital, including three that were airlifted.
