At least 18 people were killed by tornadoes that struck on Easter Sunday throughout the South, destroying homes and storefronts. More than 1 million people are currently without power.
Tornadoes and severe storms struck Central Texas early on Sunday before traveling through Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. At least 34 tornadoes were reported in the area as of early Monday.
Eleven people died in Mississippi, according to the state's emergency management agency. Six more lost their lives in Georgia, as well as one person in Arkansas.
Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama have all declared a state of emergency. Additional thunderstorms were seen on Monday morning in northern Florida, Virginia, and the Carolinas.
