Approximately 30 Taliban militants are dead after blowing themselves up during a bomb-making class, according to the Khaama Press News Agency. The Afghan Army's press release said that the extremists were working on building an improvised explosive device.
The army said it was difficult to identify the bodies because of the extent of the damage, but it was believed at least six of the deceased were foreign fighters who had come as experts to train the militants on how to make bombs.
The news comes as violence in Afghanistan continues to grow, including a nationwide surge in the amount of IED bombings. Many of the attacks go unclaimed, and the Afghans typically assume they are the work of Taliban insurgents.
