A man was fatally shot in a Wendy's parking lot after a struggle with officers Friday night in an incident caught on video which has resulted in the resignation of the Atlanta police chief and the firing of one of the two officers involved.

Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot and killed after resisting arrest and fighting the two officers who had responded to a call about him being asleep in his vehicle blocking the Wendy's drive-thru. Brooks subsequently failed sobriety tests and when officers attempted to place him under arrest, he resisted and began fighting with them.

During the struggle, Brooks gained possession of one officer's taser and began to run away. As he ran, he turned and pointed the stun gun at an officer who was chasing after him, at which point the officer fired his service weapon, striking Brooks, who was taken to a hospital where he died.

The officer fired was identified as Garrett Rolfe. The other officer involved, Devin Brosnan, was placed on administrative leave. Police Chief Erika Shields resigned in the wake of the shooting.

Protesters gathered Saturday outside the Wendy's where Brooks was shot, eventually burning down the restaurant.
