U.S. Attorney General William Barr slammed the inspector general's report on the origins of the Trump-Russia probe on Monday, calling the FBI's investigation "intrusive" and motivated by "the thinnest of suspicions."

Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his report earlier on Monday saying that the probe, while consisting of procedural errors, was nevertheless "in compliance" with internal government policy.

Barr criticized that interpretation, saying that Horowitz's report showed that the FBI "launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions."

Barr also argued that the investigation regularly ignored exculpatory evidence favorable to the president.
