Employees at a Baltimore-based company got a special Christmas surprise this year when their founder informed them that the 198 of them would be sharing in a $10 million bonus after a milestone year of business.
The bonuses averaged $50,000. One man, a maintenance technician who has been with the company since 1981, received more than $200,000.
St. John Properties informed its workers at its corporate Christmas party that the company had secured 20 million square feet of property totaling a portfolio of $3.5 billion.
To mark the occasion, employees were told they would be splitting the massive bonus between themselves, with ultimate amounts depending on how long they had been at the company. Employees received cards informing them of their personal bonus amounts.
Company founder Edward St. John said he "couldn't think of a better way" to show his appreciation for his employees.
