Promoting his controversial $2 trillion infrastructure spending bill, President Biden made peculiar remarks about the future of commercial air travel in the United States.

"We're going to talk about commercial aircraft flying at subsonic speeds, supersonic speeds, be able to figuratively, if you may, if we decide to do it, be able to traverse the world in an hour, travel at 21,000 miles an hour," the president said.

Those speeds are far greater than even experimental military aircraft or hypersonic military weapons. In fact, 21,000 miles an hour is nearly Mach 28 – meaning it is 28 times the speed of sound.

The world's largest aerospace company, Boeing, announced it was working on aircraft that might be able to attain to speeds of up to Mach 5. Currently, no commercial aircraft reaches speeds of Mach 1.
