Joe Biden says he made his recent "you ain't black" gaffe because black Breakfast Club host Charlamagne tha God "was being a wise guy and I responded in kind."

The former vice president and presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2020 election tried to explain his Breakfast Club remarks during a recent, televised interview with CNN's Dana Bash.

It is not clear how Charlamagne "was being a wise guy."

After inviting Biden to return to the show, the host said, "It's a long way until November. We've got more questions."

Biden responded by quipping, "You got more questions? Well I tell you, if you have a problem figuring out if you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black."

During the CNN interview, Bash also brought up his claim that the NAACP has endorsed him in every political race he has entered.

"Which isn't true," she said, before saying that some Biden supporters are concerned his comments will decrease his support from the black community.

Biden insisted, "I have never taken the African-American community for granted — never, never, never once."
