Joe Biden said during an NBC televised event Monday that if Judge Amy Coney Barrett receives a seat on the Supreme Court and joins with four other Supreme Court justices to successfully overturn Roe v. Wade, the "only responsible response to that is to pass legislation making Roe the law of the land."
Biden made the remark in response to a question from a young female participant at the event, which was billed as a town hall meeting, who asked what his plans are "to protect women's reproductive rights in the U.S."
A Monday night post from Biden's Twitter account features footage of the exchange.
In response to Biden's comments, President Trump tweeted that his opponent "just took a more Liberal position on Roe v. Wade than Elizabeth Warren at her highest."
He also wrote that Biden wants to add more justices to the Supreme Court. In the past, Biden said he did not want to pack the court, but recently he has refused to answer questions about the matter.
If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, any statute that made it "the law of the land" could be challenged in court.
