In a tense exchange with Fox News Special Report host Bret Baier, the national press secretary for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden refused to answer if the former vice president used a teleprompter when responding to inquiries from the American people.
TJ Ducklo claimed that Baier's question was "straight from the Trump campaign talking points." Baier countered by saying that was precisely the point — Trump's campaign was making this accusation, and Fox News was giving him the opportunity to deny it.
Ducklo refused to do so, saying he would not be distracted by Trump campaign questions funneled through Fox News.
"They talk about it every day, Bret, because they don't have a coherent strategy ... they talk about it every day because they don't have a coherent argument for why Donald Trump deserves reelection, deserves four more years…We know that he lied to the American people," Ducklo said. "We know that he has not shown leadership during this crisis, and they are desperate to throw anything they can against the wall to try to distract from that fact."
The speculation that Biden is using a teleprompter for what are being portrayed as extemporaneous responses began several days ago after the Democratic nominee seemed to read an unrelated technical instruction right in the middle of an answer about foreign policy.
Then just earlier this week, Biden appeared to ask his staff to adjust the teleprompter during a supposed Q&A with labor union members.
