Joe Biden accused President Trump on Tuesday afternoon of being unaware of what is happening after rumors that Trump denied he knew about a Russian plot threatening American soldiers rippled through Washington, D.C.
"This president talks about cognitive capability. He doesn't seem to be cognitively aware of what's going on," Biden said on Tuesday afternoon during a press briefing in Delaware. "The idea that he didn't know or wasn't being briefed, that's a dereliction of duty. And if he was briefed and didn't do anything about it, that's a dereliction of duty."
The controversy stems from Trump denying he was ever briefed on an alleged Russian government scheme to pay Taliban soldiers to kill American service members overseas. Senior intelligence officials told media that Trump was never told about the reported plot, although other officials dispute those claims.
Biden said that Trump "doesn't seem cognitively aware of what's going on" and accused him of being "unfit to be president."
"I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I'm running against," Biden said, after being asked about his own potential mental decline.
