In a tweet recognizing the start of Black History Month, President Joe Biden echoed sentiments he has made on a number of occasions, that America has "not lived up to the founding principles of this nation."

Biden made similar remarks throughout the 2020 presidential campaign, suggesting that even though America enshrined the concept that "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence, America society has remained an inherently unequal.

The Biden administration has pledged to focus its racial policy on "equity" over "equality." Two days before the election, Vice President Kamala Harris articulated the difference.

"Equality suggests, ‘Oh, everyone should get the same amount.' The problem with that, not everybody's starting out from the same place," Harris said in a viral video.
