Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg has hired established online influencers to create and post memes on Instagram to promote his 2020 presidential campaign, according to The New York Times.
The Bloomberg campaign is collaborating with Meme 2020, a consortium of people responsible for some of the most influential accounts on social media.
Meme 2020's lead strategist Mick Purzycki, who is also the CEO of Jerry Media, reached out to several large influencers within his network to help with the Bloomberg campaign.
The 2020 meme campaign launched earlier this week and has already placed sponsored posts on Instagram accounts such as @GrapeJuiceBoys and @Tank.Sinatra which are an attempt at being endearingly satirical:
All of the ads posted so far include disclosures that they are indeed ads.
