Conservative outlet Breitbart News is claiming that leaked information following the 2016 presidential election shows that top Google executives were committing to ensuring President Donald Trump's victory was merely a "blip" in history, and that the tech giant is now making good on their promise by "purging" them from search results.
The most significant way they are accomplishing that is through what is called "political search bias." Specifically, Google has been suppressing the search visibility of Breitbart by 99.7%.
By the numbers, according to Breitbart, which provided screenshots as evidence:
- April 2016: Breitbart displayed on front page Google searches for 355 key search terms.
- July 2020: Breitbart displays on front page Google searches for 1 key search term.
- April 2016: Breitbart ranked in the top 100 search results for 16,820 key search terms.
- July 2020: Breitbart ranks in the top 100 search results for 55 key search terms.

Additionally, Google searches for "Joe Biden" now no longer point to Breitbart stories at all.
An anonymous SEO (search engine optimization) expert told Breitbart it was a highly probably case of manipulation.
"I've never experienced such a wholesale removal of rank and visibility on specific concepts on a site as I have seen being applied to Breitbart," said the expert. "Removal is the key, not dropping in rank, which would be an organic devaluing. These ranks are just simply gone, overnight, while other topics have been untouched."
