New orders issued by California Gov. Gavin Newsom to help curb the spread of the coronavirus ban singing in churches.
The California Department of Public Health ordered all faiths to "discontinue singing and chanting activities," according to local media.
Churches were originally encouraged to cease singing and chanting when they were allowed to reopen at 25% capacity in late May. Now, state officials are saying that it is mandatory because "singing and chanting negate the risk reduction achieved through six feet of physical distancing."
Churches must also provide masks for those who come without.
🔦 The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention said that singing and shouting are no different than coughing or sneezing when it comes to spreading COVID-19.
