California Gov. Gavin Newsom revealed on Thursday that the state is monitoring 8,400 citizens for symptoms of the coronavirus, with 33 Californians already having tested positive for the deadly, rapidly spreading disease.
California has been at the epicenter of concerns over the coronavirus outbreak as health officials there revealed yesterday the first "community transmission" of the virus, meaning that an individual tested positive for the disease and authorities could not trace the source of that infection.
Newsom said the state was in "deep partnership" with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding testing and containment procedures.
? The virus has spread to more than 40 countries worldwide and killed over 2,800. The majority of those cases are in mainland China where the disease originated.
