A California church is displaying a nativity scene of Jesus, Mary and Joseph depicted as migrants detained in cages.

The Claremont United Methodist Church, located about half an hour outside of Los Angeles, created the display in order to memorialize what the church's pastor called "the most famous refugee family in the world, the family of Jesus."

On its website, the church said that the Holy Family is meant to stand in for "the thousands of nameless families separated at the border."
