A case of the bubonic plague has been reported at a hospital in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of China.

Authorities in the city of Bayan Nur have issued a ban on hunting and eating animals that could carry the plague and asked people to report any suspected cases.

The third-level alert — the second-lowest alert in the four-level system — comes after four reported cases in the same area last November. The earlier cases included two cases of pneumonic plague, a deadlier version of the bubonic plague.

🔦 China reported 26 cases and 11 deaths from the bubonic plague between 2009 and 2018.
