Nearly 40 people have succumbed to a lung disease associated with the use of e-cigarettes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Tuesday that 39 people in 24 different states, including the District of Columbia, have died from complications associated with vaping. More than 2,000 people have reported falling ill with a lung illness from e-cigarette use.

The deaths have not been linked to any one product or substance. Many of those who died previously reported using e-cigarettes containing THC, one of the principle components found in marijuana. Others said they just used nicotine vaping products.

The CDC reports that 70 percent of those afflicted with the lung disease are male and nearly 80 percent were under 35 years old.
