Continuing its longstanding trend of jailing members of the media, the Chinese government has sentenced a journalist to 15 years in prison after he criticized the country's one-party communist government.
Chen Jieren, who previously worked for the country's communist-controlled state media, had published several articles exposing corruption of numerous government officials. The Chinese Communist Party subsequently convicted him of crimes such as "bribes" and "picking quarrels."
Chen "attacked and vilified the Communist Party and government" with "malicious speculation," the government said.
? China jails more journalists than any other country on the planet, according to Committee to Protect Journalists.
