An escaped Chinese virologist plans to release evidence she says will prove that COVID-19 was manufactured in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
"[T]he [meat] market in Wuhan … is a smokescreen and this virus is not from nature," said Dr. Li-Meng Yan on British ITV talk show on Friday. "It comes from the lab — the lab in Wuhan and the lab is controlled by China's government."
Dr. Li-Meng Yan, who is reportedly hiding in the U.S. now, said she worked at the University of Hong Kong School of Public Health and a World Health Organization (WHO) reference lab, which included some of the earliest work on the virus, dating back to December 2019.
"The genome sequence is like a human finger print," Yan said. "So based on this you can identify these things. I use the evidence … to tell people why this has come from the lab in China, why they are the only ones who made it."
Yan previously accused Beijing of lying about a killer bug, which also included a cover-up, she claims.
"[The Chinese government] deleted all my information," Yan said.
Yan also said the Chinese government recruited people "to spread rumors about me, that I'm a liar."
Yuan Zhiming, the director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, previously denied the claims, telling state media in April, "There's no way this came from us."
