On Tuesday night, Fox New's Tucker Carlson played a secret recording of CNN anchor Chris Cuomo discussing allegations of sexual misconduct to Michael Cohen, President Trump's former lawyer.
In the recording, the CNN host and brother to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo allegedly denies accusations leveled against him by the media.
Carlson introduced the segment by arguing that Cuomo was prone to the "most overheated possible moral lectures" and often chided people for "not living up to his high ethical standards."
Cuomo has been previously criticized for his frequent bashing of Trump supporters and conservative policies, often scolding them on moral grounds. In one 2019 news segment, he asked former Wisconsin representative Sean Duffy if he was a Christian before telling him, "If you want to hold yourself as a Christian, you can't make any of the arguments you are making right now [in support of Trump]."
In the leaked recording, Cuomo talks about cases where women during his time at ABC had accused him of inappropriate contact, saying things such as, "We bumped into each other once in the elevator" and, "He put his hands on my shoulder and made me really uncomfortable."
Cuomo, who worked at ABC for 13 years before joining CNN in 2013, said reporters would often call to try to get dirt on him, comparing him to Charlie Rose, the long-time CBS anchor fired in 2017 for sexual misconduct allegations. He went on to deny any such misconduct, saying "Do I look like the kind of f------ guy who's gotta do that?"
Carlson blasted Cuomo's words, calling out what he sees as hypocrisy between Cuomo's public persona and actual beliefs. Cuomo has regularly purported to be a supporter of the #MeToo and #BelieveAllWomen movements, lambasting others accused of sexual misconduct such as Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
"Chris Cuomo is on television," Carlson said. "Chris Cuomo could bench press your Subaru. Open bathrobes are for losers... But you know who is a loser, big time? All those women who keep accusing Chris Cuomo of sexual harassment. Now, if women made those claims against you, Chris Cuomo might very well denounce you on his TV show, call for your firing, call for your banishment from decent society. These are women making the charges, after all. You must believe women. Women's voices must be heard."
Trump, who has been criticized by Cuomo on a nearly daily basis since the start of his term, attacked the CNN anchor on Twitter after the tape was leaked.
Here is the full text of the alleged exchange between the two men:
Cuomo: "You know, I'm always careful when I talk to media. Do you know how many f------ phone calls I've gotten from people at ABC who say that reporters are calling and lying about things they've heard about me, to try to get stories about me when I was at ABC? Guys calling and saying, ‘I heard he was the Charlie Rose of ABC. He used to invite women to a hotel and open his bathrobe.' Do I look like the kind of f------ guy who's gotta do that?"
Cohen: "Sure, why not? But you're in —"
Cuomo: "[They say] ‘So I really have a good source that says he forced one woman to have sex. I just want to know if you've ever heard anything like that?' There is no woman!
Cuomo: "There is none of that. Women who do work there saying, 'Oh yeah some of these men' – and naming me with other guys – 'You know we bumped into each other once in the elevator and he put his hand on my shoulder and made me really uncomfortable.' I mean what the f---."
Cohen: "It's a problem. And now you saw–"
Cuomo: "I'm careful with the media always. I've always told you the media is not your friend."
