Christian music artist Carman Licciardello, known to fans as Carman, has died at 65.
Carman died at a hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a series of complications from a surgery to repair a hiatal hernia, according to an update on his Facebook page on Tuesday. The surgery led to internal bleeding, organ failure, and pneumonia.
Carman has also battled myeloma cancer. He experienced several years of recovery after a diagnosis in 2013, but announced last year that the cancer had returned.
"This world has lost a light in the darkness but today Carman saw first hand the fruit of his labors," said manager Matt Felts.
In addition to dozens of other honors and awards, Carman was inducted into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2018. He also set the record for having the largest audience to see a single Christian artist, with more than 71,000 fans at Texas Stadium.
"Carman's stage shows were without equal, he was inspiring to watch. He was the consummate pro, and I was proud to call him my friend," said Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus. "It would be hard to fathom how many millions were led to Christ through his music and ministry. He will be missed but never forgotten."
