Former Democratic presidential candidate and current White House climate czar John Kerry was photographed recently sitting without a mask aboard an American Airlines flight to Washington, D.C.
The airline mandates that all passengers, including those as young as 2 years of age, wear face coverings when they fly. Exceptions are made for the brief moments a passenger may be eating or drinking, but the picture of Kerry published by the Tennessee Star shows the former secretary of state reading a book in first class with no mask.
A fellow passenger came to Kerry's defense saying that he believed the picture was taken shortly after boarding when the climate guru was still taking phone calls. But American Airlines does not have a mask policy exemption for those making or receiving calls.
The picture quickly spread around social media as an example of a double standard between the ruling class and average citizens.
American Airlines said it was looking into the incident.
