The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. continues to surge, setting a one-day record on Friday with over 70,000 confirmed infections.

The past four days have each logged over 60,000 new cases nationwide, and Florida set a new state record on Sunday with over 15,000 confirmed infections.

Despite the number of confirmed infections rising to levels not before seen, deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain near their lowest levels since the pandemic's initial surge, with the number of deaths in the past week roughly equal to the week occurring one month ago.

🔦 More deaths attributed to coronavirus were recorded in the past week than the prior three weeks, however, and experts are warning that the fatality count could surge as the number of cases continues to climb.
