An Arkansas couple used video conferencing software Zoom to proceed with the adoption of a boy they had been fostering after their original hearing was canceled.

Kimberly Wieneke and her husband had been fostering 2-year-old Jaden for nearly a year and knew they wanted to adopt him. Their hearing to do so, however, was canceled because of the pandemic.

The couple was still allowed to attend the hearing via Zoom, through which Jaden officially became their son.

Though Wienke expressed regret that they could not have the in-person adoption ceremony as they imagined it, she still told local media the process was special.

"Sometimes it feels like not real, I mean we sit and look at him, and we're like, ‘He's ours,'" she said.
