“COVID Sucks”: Customer leaves $1,400 tip for struggling bakery staff

Workers at Notchtop Bakery and Cafe in Estes Park, Colorado, were blessed by an incredible act of generosity from one of their regular patrons last Wednesday.

A routine customer that they identified only as "David" walked in and asked owner Nailya Khametvalieva what, at first, she thought was a bizarre question.

"He asked how many servers we have today and how many staff altogether. We had seven people," said a somewhat confused Khametvalieva.

Later, when David paid his bill, server Gloria Fuentes realized why he had asked. The loyal customer had left a tip of $1,400 with instructions to split the tip evenly between all the servers.

"I couldn't believe it when I saw the bill," Fuentes said in an interview with local media. "I was impressed. I was like…am I dreaming or what's going on?'"

Fuentes said the act has reminded her and fellow coworkers to keep pushing through tough times.

"Not everything is darkness," she said, "there is a light at the end of the tunnel."
