The movie "Cuties" was the fourth most watched movie on Netflix in the U.S. as of Tuesday evening, following days of controversy after its September 9 release on the streaming platform.

"Cuties" followed "Pets United" in first, "The Social Dilemma" in second, and "The Babysitter Killer Queen" in third.

The film has received criticism over its depictions of underage girls dancing suggestively. Director Maïmouna Doucouré said in an interview with Deadline that she hopes the film would make a change "in this world that hypersexualizes" children, adding that she hopes critics understand that "we're actually on the same side of this battle."

"I really put my heart into this film," Doucouré told Deadline. "It's actually my personal story, as well as the story of many children who have to navigate between a liberal Western culture and a conservative culture at home."
