After presiding over a chaotic first presidential debate, Fox News host Chris Wallace faced strong criticism for his performance that many deemed biased in favor of Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

Numerous times throughout the course of the 90-minute debate, Wallace appeared passive when Biden interrupted President Trump, but came to Biden's defense when Trump interrupted him. Even fellow Fox hosts took issue with it on social media.

Other journalists from across the political spectrum also criticized Wallace's performance.

Towards the end of the debate, in what was one of the debate's few light-hearted moments, Wallace shared a laugh with Biden. That too, rubbed many professional commentators as inappropriate behavior for a moderator.

Trump himself took issue with what he saw as Wallace's one-sidedness in a tense exchange:

C-SPAN political editor Steve Scully and NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker are slated to moderate the second and third debates, respectively.
