The majority-Democratic legislature in Virginia voted on Tuesday to allow illegal immigrants to obtain state driver's licenses, one of many progressive bills that Democrats have passed during Virginia's short legislative season.
The bill stipulates that illegal immigrants seeking a driver's license in the state must provide proof of an income tax return. The driver's licenses would also contain text affirming that the identification card is not to be used for voting purposes.
Fourteen other states have already passed similar laws. Virginia Democrats have previously attempted to also pass similar policies, but were unable to do so due to Republican control of the state Capitol.
