The CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods revealed in an interview that the outdoor retail giant recently destroyed millions of dollars worth of firearms, sawing them into scrap metal as part of a decision to limit the types of guns it sells.

The retailer decided to stop selling AR-style weapons after the Parkland, Florida mass shooting. The company had actually sold a shotgun to that particular mass shooter, though ultimately he did not use the gun in the shooting.

Reflecting on the decision to halt the sale of certain types of semiautomatic rifles, Dick’s CEO Ed Stack recalled thinking: “If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them.”

The corporation also halted the sale of firearms to anyone under 21. Stack says Dick’s has lost about $250,000,000 in sales as a result of their new gun rules.

🔦 Dick’s joined Walmart, L.L. Bean and numerous other retailers in modifying its gun policies as a response to mass shootings.
