Duke University’s student government denied a Christian student group official status due to the group’s policy of forbidding individuals from holding leadership positions if they “practice a homosexual lifestyle.”

The Duke student government accused the student group, called Young Life, of discriminating against LGBTQ individuals. The group said this was false, claiming that their policy disallowing leadership rolls to practicing homosexuals still permits LGBTQ individuals to join the group itself.

The group’s mission statement claims that non-heterosexual sex is “clearly not in accord with God’s creation purposes.”
