Actor Dustin Diamond, best known for his role of Samuel "Screech" Powers on the hit television show "Saved by the Bell," died Monday morning at the age of 44. Diamond had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer just weeks ago.
"[His] condition had greatly declined since last week, and he was taken off of breathing machines in an attempt to get him to hospice care," Diamond's spokesperson Roger Paul said.
According to his management team, Diamond was surrounded by his girlfriend and another good friend, when he passed.
"[Dustin] was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago. In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution," the team said. "Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful."
Besides "Saved by the Bell," Diamond appeared on programs like "Celebrity Fit Club," "The Weakest Link," "Celebrity Big Brother," and in the movie "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star."
